An Outsiders Take on What Goes On At Results
“I’m feeling a little bitter right now… just thinking about all the hours and years I’ve spent in the gym wasting my time.” That’s a quote from a friend of mine earlier this week after I asked him what he learned from watching me train a few people. Many people still grab the most recent copy of Muscle and Fitness or Mens Health, flip to a training article then head to the gym and try to implement what they read. Come on you know you’ve done it! Heck you can even name the article… “Shredded abs in 4 weeks,” “Killer guns”, or “Great glutes that turn heads!” Why on earth do people still insist on training their body like it’s a collection of parts? You know… chest on Monday, back on Tuesday, arms on Wednesday and legs (if you’re a guy… yea right!). Do you eat protein on Monday, Carbs on Tuesday, Fats on Wednesday and so on? At home do you only play with your kids on Monday or do you give them attention every day?! You get the point… I asked him to write a few paragraphs for the blog about his response to watching what goes on at Results Personal Training every day. Here is what he came up with…

Einstein said, the definition of insanity is doing something the same way over and over and expecting different results. For the sake of this piece we will assume Al knew what he was talking about. I know this to be true because over my lifetime I’ve purchased a fairly significant piece of the pie that is the $19 billion American fitness industry. I have joined gyms and hired trainers for the entire spectrum of reasons: training for a sport, rehabbing an injury (ironically, some of which I sustained while at the gym), working off some winter weight, or maybe just trying to up my curb appeal and resale value. Any and all of these are good enough reasons to join a gym, but none of them have been good enough reasons to keep me there. Years of chest days, shoulder days, leg days, arm days, combined with mind numbing hours on the treadmill have led me to try to find something, anything, which broke from the traditional fitness dogma and made some sense to a 30-something former athlete who isn’t quite ready to give up on living a physical life just yet.

As soon as you walk into Results Personal Training, what hits you isn’t so much how it reminds you of other gyms you’ve been in, but rather how it differs. No pool, no basketball court, no sauna. There isn’t row upon row of cardio machines, or machines of any kind for that matter, and there are not groups of people signing up for their 30min session on said devices. There’s also none of my beloved daytime TV, although I’m thinking of asking Corey to address that. What will strike you about Results is its simplicity. The 1:1 client-trainer ratio, the attention to detail in the exercises being performed, and most of all the clearly defined goal of making the most out of the hour that you’ll be spending in there today. Yes, I said an hour. And in that time you’re going to see and do things you’ve never experienced and didn’t think possible.

With clients ranging from a 75-yr old with a new knee, to a high school basketball player, to a 28-yr old cancer survivor, the client’s hour (and make no mistake, the time belongs solely to the person being trained) is uniquely tailored around getting the body to do what it was originally intended to. The Results staff strive to get the body to work with itself from nose-to-toes by devising and implementing a regimen of lifting and working with basic movements, movements abandoned long ago by the techno-centric fitness industry. When I first saw it, I called it voodoo. Turns out it’s too simple to be voodoo. Want to be strong? Lift something you normally wouldn’t. Want to be fit and healthy? Let us help you get a plan, and then follow it. Want to set a personal record? Breathe. The results are immediate, tangible, and impressive. Turns out that proficiency=strength…
